Hello everyone! Just wanted to hop on here and give a little update.
The bad news is, I had my appointment with the gene specialist…. kind of. He actually called me the day before my appointment to let me know he had looked over all my notes and info from my family doctor and the dermatologists and wanted to save me a trip. He said that MTHFR is still too new to have a definite connection to hair loss as there has not been enough research done to tell. He also said, just like the other 2 doctors that everything else seemed normal, which again, is good, but not helpful. So long story short, I didn’t go and he suggested I go back to my family doctor and see where she suggests I go.
The good news, I am slowly but surely getting used to shortness and continuing to learn to like it. I think one of the biggest things so far has been the difference when I put it up and I feel like there’s just nothing there. Also, I know this is going to sound like an ad, but I swear it is not! I got my Monat hair system in and I LOVE IT! I can honestly say my hair has not felt this good in a LONG TIME!! It is so shiny and so light and bouncy. it was so brittle and straw-like before, especially towards the ends of my extensions. And I am finding less and less hair in the drain after I shower, which is AMAZING! I can’t say if its specifically due to the Monat or all the other vitamins and things I am doing, or all of it together, but I definitely feel like I am seeing a change. At least in the quality of my hair, not so much in the growth department yet, but I will keep you posted on that for sure. I also had an OB appointment recently. She is the one who initially found the MTHFR mutation and treated it. I asked her if she had any thoughts about my loss of hair and she said she really thought it may still be linked to the stress of the pregnancies and the losses both mentally and physically, along with a possibly extended period of post-partum hair loss. She said she thought in time it should go back to normal, but there was no distinct timeline for it because everyone heals differently. She also suggested I start taking a supplement called Saw Palmetto. This supplement is made from a type of palm native to the southeastern United States. The berries of the plant are commonly used in supplements to improve prostate health, balance hormone levels, and prevent hair loss in men and women and it’s also associated with other benefits, including decreased inflammation and improved urinary function. I found it on Amazon and started it a few days after my appointment.
On an unrelated hair note, I hope everyone is staying safe and at home and have all the toilet paper and water you need. It is going to be an interesting next few weeks.

Thanks again for coming on this journey with me! I don’t know that I’m any closer to answer, but I appreciate you reading. Please let me know if you have experienced anything like this and some of the things you did to overcome it.
Stay sassy!
